Subject: Re: WCIII on the GUS.
I have played WCIII to completion with my GUS MAX (1MB) on DMA channel 7,
IRQ 11. I have a Mitsumi 4x CDROM, local bus IDE and Cirrus Logic 2MB
video, and 8MB of RAM on a 486DX-33. I don't know why DMA 3 works on
your system but DMA 7 does not. Is your ISA bus clock set above 8MHz?
On my 33MHz machine, CLK/4 works very well while CLK/3 causes a number of
programs to crash intermittently.
BTW, to speed up WCIII incredibly, increase your BUFFERS to 99 and FILES to
60 or so in config.sys and don't load a single TSR that you don't need.
Increase your CDROM buffers in MSCDEX to the largest amount that you can have
and still retain enough memory to run the game. Using these settings the
game is fully playable and enjoyable on a 486DX-33, which the docs say is too
slow to play. My machine plays the game much faster than a badly set up
Pentium 60 with 8MB of RAM that I have seen running in a store. Finally, if
you have the disk space, install all possible files on the hard drive. Even
with a quad speed drive, doing this helps a lot during the transitional
sections of the game. If you have a slow CDROM then you may find it helpful
to turn off communications video and even audio since the game often has to
reload this stuff from CD (or the HD which can still be slow) which can
cause annoying pauses in combat.

Subject: Dark Forces demo with GUS
Hi fellow GUSsers,
Somebody asked if the DF demo had GUS-support.
Well there seem to be different versions.
I just bought the Full Throttle CD (Gus support ! It has a fully
digitised sound-track, so midi is not applicable) and it contains the
trailer from Rebel Assault II, and a Dark Forces demo. Both contain
GUS-support via their IMUSE driver. The MIDI-score sounds great via
the GUS.
I don't know how big the Dark Forces demo is, but may be it is enough
to replace the IMUSE-driver stuff for the new ones supplied with this
demo.
I'll know a friend with the 'old' DF demo so when I find the time I
will try it.

I downloaded megaem 304 (beta version) and immediately tried MC
I got the MT-32 emulation working straight away and i worked fine
As soon as I added the soundblaster emulation then both MC and TP both
hung. (If i selected the wrong irq it just thought that it wasnt there and
continued without sound)
I have a regular GUS.. I dont get a less that 3.xx revision message so I must
have >3.xx
If anyone with a regular GUS has got soundblaster emulation for either of these
Bullfrog games then can they send me there settings or how they got it working.

Here goes today's batch of replies...
> Is win95 going to support the GUS (MAX) ?
Yes. As usual, though, Gravis (it seems they are the only ones... the
list of currently supported drivers is phenomenal) refuses to write
32-bit drivers for a beta OS. When it comes out, we'll see GUS 32-bit
drivers, which ought to be nice.
As a side note, I have Win95 running just fine. It crashed once... and
only once, when I was installing the GUS 16-bit drivers.
> Why doens't gravis make an emulator like SBOS, but which uses patches ?
Ummm... hmm... um... :)

I have a GUSMAX 1 Meg, installed Dark Forces from CD, it worked fine
first try. No music problems, no sound problems... it's great. My
setup is: IRQ's 11,12 DMA's 6,7 Codec 32c

Umm... no. How do you know you don't have NMI? Unless the drivers shit
the bed and said "You don't have NMI so we're not running", you
probably have it, like it or not... silly human.

I remember this problem... anybody care to comment on the solution?
And about NMI... see above.

Subject: Monty Python CD sound drop-out
Greetings Citizens,
Say I have the slight misfortune of owning a GUD (rev. 3.4).
Anyway, I purchased the Monty Python: Incred. waste of time CD,
a windows based program that uses non-Video for Windows/non-Quicktime
multi-media. The problem is sound drop-out! Big time.
I am running win. drivers 5.50, fixed buffer size 256 and running
windows 3.11. This often occurs with Quicktime media, but is often
fixed by moving the wave volume on the Gravis mixer.
Should I just sell the card? This problem is getting on my nerves.

Anybody willing to upload this new version of the DF demo or imuse to an
ftp site? Thanks.

Sorry if this question has been asked before but can anyone give
me an ftp site and a directory of where I can obtain the new
Megaem?
Also, I have Leisure Suit Larry 6. The install program has Gravis
Ultrasound as an option - but I try it and it does not work
properly.
I tried also the Sierra 32-bit drivers and that didn't work
either.
Anyone know how to get this game working with my GUS?
I have the GUS set at 220,5,5,11,11 usually, but can also use
220,1,1,11,7 if I need to run SBOS etc.

Hello there,
I got quite a good response from people who would like me to
upload my current set of patches. I'm going through them at the moment,
making a few last minute revisions, editions and deletions before the
first upload attempt. To this end I am looking for a GOOD trombone and
trumpet patch, the ones which I currently have access to (to put it
mildly) stink. If anyone has a good patch to recommend please send it to
me or upload it to EPAS...... The patch set should be up in the next week
or so....
